The geography of story

Did you know there is a geography to story?

Of course everyone know there’s BEGINNING, MIDDLE and END. These are the parts of story. But my colleague  Paul Andrew Costello told me there’s also a beginning, middle and end to every PART of the story.

Knowing this piece of “story geography” can help you understand how to meet the moment. It gives you a map.

Beginnings call for CLARITY. What is your intention? What do yo want to pay attention to as you step in?

Middles (especially the messy ones!) call for CURIOSITY. Where there is curiosity there is no judgement and much less fear.

This is a good lesson for so many of us right now who feel like the boat might be swamped by others who feel and act so differently to us. Meeting "the other" with curiosity means that a truer human meeting can take place, rather than just a meeting of opinions.

Endings call for CONSCIOUS CLOSURE. Making a good end enables you to lay something to rest and gather your energy for the future.
